My Life Story

Who am I?

My name is Miguel Andrés Saavedra Velandia, I am fifteen years old, and today I am going to tell who am I.

My first years

Before I was born I was a boy wanted by my parents, they wanted me to be a baby.  At first the pregnancy was normal until 8 months and in one of the tests it came out that mum had rubella, my mother also had this disease when she was a child, at that time the doctors did not say anything so as not to scare my mother but, rubella is a serious disease that can cause miscarriage and birth defects.

But luckily nothing serious happened during the pregnancy.  I was born in the San Antonio hospital located in Pitalito (Colombia) being a normal baby without any problem.  My first few months were normal.

Until I was 6 months old, that day we went to the museum in San Agustín (Colombia) and the next day I got the flu, my parents thought it was because of to the museum, it started as a small flu but it was getting worse so they took me to the San Antonio hospital where a pediatrician treated me.

he said I had bronchiolitis so I was hospitalized and they put me in an oxygen cabin but I didn't get better then the pediatrician noticed that he gave me very strong medications and that seemed suspicious to my parents.

As I did not improve, one of the nurses took me to the uci-icu and the next day the nurse said that I no longer had bronchiolitis but rather pneumonia and that I was also very ill, so they transferred me to Neiva (Colombia) in a medicalized ambulance when they received me In Neiva, the doctors told my parents that I was in very bad condition and had many illnesses, among them: pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, bronchiolitis, and acute pulmonary edema.

They also suspected that I might have a heart murmur, the doctors said that I could have it from birth, maybe caused by rubella but it was not really known.

I had a lot of tests done and the prognosis was always reserved and high risk.  A month passed and they took me to Bogota to be able to have surgery because an echocardiogram showed that I had two little holes in my heart.  I was in the uci-icu for a month but the room was shared and the boy I was sharing it with caught the flu and to my bad luck I caught it.

So they had to move me back to neiva to rest for a month without anyone besides my parents being able to see me so that I could be well when they operated on me.

At this time there was a health brigade where a doctor from Italy came to operate on the most serious ill children in Colombia, so they took out 5 children, among them was me and I was the smallest.

The Italian doctor called Brechelli or something like that, together with a paramedic who had treated me before in Bogota, operated on me on July 20, 2007. The sugery was (VSD: clouse of interventricular communication and ASD: clouse of an atrial septal defect) of the five children I was the only one who survived.

I lasted a month recovering from the surgery until August 30th, 2007. Then every month I had to travel to Neiva to take a tests to see how I was doing.  In those exams they put me to sleep so that I would stay still and one of those times before I felt asleep I started talking and seemed drunk so everyone who was there laughed.

Then I got better.  When I was 2 years old the controls were every 6 months and when I was 3 years old they were every year until I was 5 years old and I got better.

where I studied

When I was 4 years old Iwent to a kindergarten called Guardería chiquitines and I was there for a year. then I studied at the victor manuel meneses school from preschool to first grade.

This year when I was 6 years old I moved to a farm, so I changed to Liceo Don Bosco school.  in second and third I was almost always in first place and I  also met friend like Aarón who is a friend I have to this day.

This year I was in a parade where my sister was the queen but didn't win.

in fourth and fifth grade the years continued normal. sixth and seventh grade too, I met friends and had a good time.

But when I was in eight grade something known as covid-19 come into the world and everyone had to stay home, that year we had virtual clases.

in ninth we were also in virual classes until the middle of the year. I think that presencial classes are better that virual classes, because I learn better.

I finally reached tenth, at the beinning of the year my friend Aarón ran for personero and I halped him as acompaing manager and we won with a big difference.

In the middle of the year I was playing intercollegiate, where not anly we lost every game also they thrashed us, but we had a great time.

The year will end and next year I will continue studying here in at LIceo Don bosco.
